Milano Marittima was founded back on 14th August 1912.
Today the Municipality of Cervia, jointed to the Region Emilia Romagna, is ready to celebrate the one hundred birthday of one of Italy's most popular beach resort.
In fact, one hundred years ago a middle class group of Milanese citizens, headed by the artist Giuseppe Palanti, started building a new beach area reserved for people of Milan.
On 1911 they founded, in the town of Milan, the "Società Anonima Milano Marittima" (Public Limited Company) and on 14th August 1912 they signed an agreement with Cervia's Municipality to get a large area of the beach in north of the town where develop tourism.
Charming cottages and liberty style villas, perfectly preserved, are a great exemple of the beauty that one hundred years ago inspired the birth of the town.
Milano Marittima is yet one of the few exemple of Garden City according the Ebenezer Howard's original ideas and the issue of sustainability and closer relationship with environmental and landscape resources seem to guide present and future tourist offer.
Cervia will cenebrate in style Milano Marittima's birthday and the whole 2012 will be dedicated to the Centenary with a great events calendar.
